ROME, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Lorenzo Riccardi, Chairman of the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC), said in a recent interview with Xinhua that the Chinese market is of great importance to Italian companies.
According to Riccardi, member companies of the CICC currently have had a total investment of around 15 billion euros in China and employed about 130,000 people in the country, operating across a wide range of sectors.
Based on the latest data, he said, Italian companies' interest in the Chinese market continues to rise, a trend he attributed to the ongoing improvement of China's industrial system, manufacturing capacity and supporting infrastructure.
In specific sectors, he said that the CICC, together with the Italian Trade Agency, has carried out a joint study to assess the potential for Italian brands and "Made in Italy" to enter China's electric vehicle industrial chain. He said opportunities exist for Italian companies to enter this market in both the services and components segments.
Turning to the upcoming 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, Riccardi said the event holds symbolic significance in China-Italy relations. As interest in winter sports continues to grow among the Chinese public, he said there is multi-level cooperation potential between the two countries in the winter sports industry, the mountain economy and related lifestyle sectors, and the CICC has also carried out related exchanges and promotional activities themed around the Winter Olympics.
The CICC is an association composed of Italian entrepreneurs and professionals, and currently maintains offices in several cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Suzhou. (Contributed by Gao Jingyan, edited by Gu Shanshan with Xinhua Silk Road, gushanshan.1987@163.com)
