China, Brunei pledge to promote building of community with shared future

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- China and Brunei have pledged to strengthen cooperation in various fields and promote the building of a China-Brunei community with a shared future, during a Chinese delegation's visit to Brunei from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Peng Qinghua, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China and president of the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament, who was leading the delegation, met with Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, and Haji Abdul Rahman, speaker of the Legislative Council of Brunei Darussalam.

Peng said that the traditional friendship between China and Brunei has a long history. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, bilateral relations have been continuously elevated and upgraded in recent years.

China stands ready to work with Brunei to implement the important common understandings reached between the two countries' leaders, carry forward the traditional friendship, strengthen political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, pursue common development, and advance the building of a China-Brunei community with a shared future, Peng said.

The Brunei side said that it places high importance on developing relations with China, firmly adheres to the one-China policy, and stands ready to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China across the board, enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, and jointly advance the building of a Brunei-China community with a shared future.

During the visit, Peng also attended the event "Civil Dialogue on Contributing People-to-People Strength to the Building of a China-Brunei Community with a Shared Future."
