NAIROBI, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan President William Ruto on Thursday said his government will continue to deepen cooperation with China in a spirit of partnership and shared progress.
Ruto, who hosted a delegation from the Export-Import Bank of China (China Exim Bank) led by Chairman Chen Huaiyu in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, said the growing presence of Chinese enterprises in Kenya reflects their confidence in the country's stability and their readiness to expand investments.
"The China Exim Bank remains a central pillar of this collaboration, and we value its sustained support for major infrastructure projects as well as the growth of our technical and vocational education programs," Ruto said, according to a statement issued by the presidency after the meeting.
Chen reaffirmed the bank's strong commitment to deepening cooperation with Kenya, noting China's continued interest in promoting economic and trade relations that deliver concrete benefits to the Kenyan people.
Chen said that the bank regards Kenya as a strategic partner and stands ready to support projects that enhance connectivity, catalyze investment, and advance sustainable economic development.
He expressed confidence that the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) project will further strengthen bilateral cooperation and contribute significantly to Kenya's long-term development agenda.
The meeting came a day after Kenya signed a 185-million-U.S.-dollar concessional loan agreement with China Exim Bank to finance the ITS project, a flagship initiative designed to improve traffic coordination, enhance road safety, and modernize key transport corridors.
The agreement was signed by Kenya's National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and Zhu Jia, deputy general manager of the Sovereign Business Department at the China Exim Bank.
Mbadi said in a statement issued on Wednesday evening that the ITS project is a key component of Kenya's integrated transport management framework, designed to modernize mobility across major transport corridors.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to reduce congestion, streamline traffic flow, boost road safety through real-time surveillance, shorten travel times, and support data-driven enforcement of transport regulations, while strengthening the digital backbone for smart-city infrastructure.
He added that these improvements would deliver economic savings, increase productivity, and create a better commuting experience for millions of road users.
