BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- The 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) will be held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10. Among the six Enterprise & Business Exhibition areas, the Medical Equipment & Healthcare Products area has once again become a global showcase for the industry's latest advancements and product launches.
-- Innovation in health: meeting diverse needs with new products
Siemens Healthineers has its largest-ever exhibition area at this year's CIIE, covering 1,000 square meters. The company will present the ARTIS icono ceiling Xpand, an ultra-fast spectral angiography system making its Asian debut. The system can clearly capture previously hard-to-identify microtumors within 2.5 seconds, assisting physicians in performing minimally invasive treatments with sub-millimeter precision.
Meanwhile, at the Medtronic exhibition area, a slim device will be on display. It senses the spinal cord bio-signal variation during different movements, automatically adjusts stimulation in real time, and delivers continuous treatment to patients with chronic pain.
Apart from medical devices, new drugs remain a major focus this year. Novartis will showcase nearly 20 innovative products covering four core therapeutic areas, alongside an immersive interactive experience.
-- From exhibits to market-ready commodities: acceleration in full swing
The AVEIR™ DR dual-chamber implantable leadless cardiac pacemaker system, which made its debut at the 6th CIIE, obtained marketing approval in China earlier this year. Since then, it has been successfully implanted in patients at hospitals across the country, enabling more people to benefit from advanced cardiac care.
Cardiac pacemakers are an effective treatment for severe bradyarrhythmia, explained Pan Wenqi, a chief physician in the Department of Cardiology at Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, who has helped implant this product in patients. Compared with traditional devices, this new product achieves synchronized communication between the atrium and ventricle, simulates the heart's natural rhythm for precise pacing, and eliminates infection risks caused by surgical pockets.
Moreover, a growing number of enterprises are seeing their exhibits at the CIIE turn into market-ready commodities. The CIIE is a key platform for unveiling innovations, understanding local needs, and fostering win-win cooperation, said Mohammed Tawil, president and CEO of Boehringer Ingelheim Greater China.
-- From exhibitors to investors: widening the circle of friends
Elekta, a Swedish pharma company achieved full localization of its product portfolio in China in March 2025. Meanwhile, Roche Pharma China announced a 2.04-billion-yuan (around 287 million U.S. dollars) investment to build a new biopharmaceutical manufacturing site in Shanghai on May 8, and Medtronic inaugurated its first digital healthcare innovation center in China at the Beijing Biomedical Innovation Park (BioPark) on October 25.
Bian Xin, president of Roche Pharma China, stated that the CIIE has become an irreplaceable strategic platform for foreign-funded enterprises committed to the Chinese market, serving as a vital window into China's high-level opening-up and a global stage for sharing innovation.
In addition, Medtronic China Fund has invested in more than ten medical technology startups and looks forward to bringing high-quality healthcare solutions to China and beyond, according to Wang Jinghua, managing partner of the fund.
"We have witnessed China's business environment continue to improve. Over the past three years, we have reached over 20 cooperation deals at the CIIE," said Jin Fangqian, global vice president of Gilead Sciences and general manager of Gilead Sciences China.
