BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- A delegation from Wolfsburg, Germany led by the city's mayor Dennis Weilmann visited Shanghai's Jiading District recently to further promote high-quality development of the friendly relations between the two sides, as this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of friendly-city relations between Jiading District and Wolfsburg.
In the first-floor exhibition hall of the Shanghai Auto Museum, a classic Beetle in dark green caught the mayor's attention. "I saw the emblem of Wolfsburg on the front of the car, which was truly heartwarming," said Dennis Weilmann. It is learned that Wolfsburg is famous for having Volkswagen's headquarters located there.
This visit marks Weilmann's first trip to China since he was elected as the mayor of Wolfsburg. The delegation also visited Nanxiang Old Street and Shanghai Jiading No. 2 High School, so as to further deepen mutual friendship and promote cultural exchanges.
Gao Xiang, head of Jiading District, introduced Jiading's history and economic and social development status to the delegation, stressing that the two sides have maintained friendly exchanges over the past decade, and the friendship between the people of the two sides grows stronger over time.
Jiading is willing to deepen cooperation with Wolfsburg in culture and education, urban construction and industrial development, involving areas in teacher and student exchange programs, smart cities and low-carbon communities development, sustainable urban solutions, autos, hydrogen equipment, intelligent manufacturing, digital economy, etc., noted Gao.
Weilmann said that he felt the profound historical and cultural heritage of Jiading, and appreciated the vigorous development of Jiading's automobile industry and scientific and technological innovation during the visit. He also expressed hope for the two sides to further strengthen personnel exchanges, expand cultural and youth exchanges, and deepen cooperation in areas such as education, urban construction, industrial development, etc.
