China-Africa cooperation, featuring a win-win partnership, has set an example for advancing collaboration across the Global South, an official with the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, the national broadcaster, has said.

HARARE, July 12 (Xinhua) -- China-Africa cooperation, featuring a win-win partnership, has set an example for advancing collaboration across the Global South, an official with the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), the national broadcaster, has said.

Speaking to Xinhua in an interview on Thursday in Harare, the Zimbabwean capital, Jonathan Marerwa, manager for radio news at ZBC, said that China and Africa have fostered a win-win partnership based on mutual trust and respect, which has driven their mutual development for years.

Marerwa was among several Zimbabwean media professionals who attended a two-week skills exchange program in central China's Hunan Province in June, during which they engaged in various activities, including the fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo in Changsha, the provincial capital.

Marerwa said he was deeply impressed by the massive change in Changsha's urban landscape since his first visit to the city in 2013, which mirrored the profound development China has achieved over the past decade.

"The level of development and what I witnessed is massive -- the buildings, the infrastructure, the road network -- everything is just top-notch," he said, adding that he was also amazed by China's extensive adoption of artificial intelligence in various sectors, particularly in the media industry.

Marerwa commended the Chinese model of economic development, saying it is instructive for African countries in their own development paths.

"The Chinese people have the willpower to come up with a project, take that project, work on it, and complete it with hard work. I think we can take a leaf from that," he said.

The senior journalist also hailed China's role in advancing development in Africa, particularly in Zimbabwe, where China has been actively involved in major infrastructure projects.

"The collaboration between China and Africa started long ago. And by the look of things, it is going from strength to strength. And we can only get better," he said.

Looking into the future, Marerwa said there is scope for more collaboration between China and Zimbabwe.

"We always say that China is Zimbabwe's all-weather friend. We have learned a lot from China, we have benefited a lot from China -- from power generation, from road infrastructure, the construction of dams, the construction of hospitals," he said, adding that cooperation with China has not only benefited Africa but has brought tangible results to other global regions as well.

"It is not just Africa that is collaborating with China. It is Asia-Pacific, Latin America. Everyone is collaborating with the Chinese," he said.

While cooperation with China in economic development has seen a notable increase, Marerwa said there is a need for deeper collaboration, particularly in the entertainment industry.

"We have collaborated in so many areas, but as a broadcaster, I feel we need to do more, particularly in the movie industry," he said.

"The mutual collaboration between China and Africa, China and Zimbabwe, is always a win-win situation," Marerwa added.
