PARIS, June 10 (Xinhua) -- AESC, a leading Chinese battery technology company specialized in the development and manufacturing of advanced batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems, recently put its battery gigafactory in Douai, France into production.
According to AESC, the Douai plant powering by clean electricity features advanced manufacturing processes, including electrode production, cell assembly, and module integration. With an annual production capacity of 10 GWh, the facility has the potential to power up to 200,000 EVs per year, helping Europe accelerate its low-carbon transformation. At present, the French EV sales champion Renault R5 model has equipped with AESC's advanced batteries.
The Douai gigafactory, built with the support of prestigious French and European financial partners including Bpifrance, Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, European Investment Bank and a syndicate of leading commercial banks, represents a landmark investment in the reindustrialization of France and the decarbonization of the European automotive sector.
Zhang Lei, chairman of AESC, noted that the start of production of the AESC Douai gigafactory will surely accelerate the process of automotive electrification in Europe, and AESC is practicing the concept of "a community with a shared future for mankind" and using China's new energy to bring new global prosperity. "By investing in cutting-edge battery technology and skilled talent, we are proud to help accelerate the decarbonization of transportation worldwide," he affirmed.
According to AESC, the gigafactory has already provided 650 high-quality green jobs, with the workforce expected to grow to 1,000 at full production capacity. The company will continue to invest in local recruitment through ongoing hiring initiatives in partnership with regional educational institutions and employment agencies.
