Chinese entrepreneurs donate supplies to vulnerable children in South Sudan

May 15, 2025

Abstract : A group of Chinese entrepreneurs in South Sudan on Wednesday donated essential items, including food, to an orphanage in the East African country.

JUBA, May 14 (Xinhua) -- A group of Chinese entrepreneurs in South Sudan on Wednesday donated essential items, including food, to an orphanage in the East African country.

The donation was delivered to 52 children. Bida Samson Robert, executive director of Confident Children Out of Conflict, a charity organization, praised the Chinese entrepreneurs for their support, saying it eased the financial burden of running the center.

"This is a huge support for the orphanage, and it has truly brought us a lot of happiness because the children will now have good meals, and the scholastic materials, such as school bags, will reduce the cost of buying new ones," Samson said during the donation ceremony in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.

"We encourage continued support because many children here are in need, especially as the center currently lacks funding. We rely entirely on such donations to keep the center running," he added.

Pan Jianyan, a Chinese businesswoman and owner of New Trading and Investment Company Limited, said she felt compelled to help vulnerable children after spending 15 years in South Sudan witnessing its post-war reconstruction and recovery.

"Though these are small actions, they reflect our genuine commitment to giving back to the society from which we benefit. My company and I will continue to take our social responsibility seriously, actively participate in local charitable efforts, and contribute to the development of South Sudan's economy and the well-being of its people," Pan said.

Li Guanghua, chairman of the Overseas Chinese Association in South Sudan, said the success of their businesses depends on supporting vulnerable groups in the local community.

"My success would not be possible without the support of the South Sudanese government and people, which is why we decide to make this kind of donation every year," Li said.
