China has been evolving from being the manufacturer of all things to a key player in global research and development, particularly in technologies like electric vehicles (EVs), artificial intelligence, telecommunications and renewables, said a Turkish scholar.

ANKARA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's high-quality development through innovation, especially in technology, has been amazing, a Turkish expert has said.
"Today, China's development level in artificial intelligence, telecommunications technology, automotive and other consumer electronics is at an amazing level," Ali Oguz Dirioz, an associate professor of international relations at Ankara's TOBB University of Economics and Technology, told Xinhua in a recent interview.
Dirioz said that China has been evolving from being the manufacturer of all things to a key player in global research and development, particularly in technologies like electric vehicles (EVs), artificial intelligence, telecommunications and renewables.
As a result, China plays a vital role in the global shift toward sustainability, he added.
In just 20 years, China has transformed itself from a manufacturing hub to an innovation and technology development giant, the expert said, noting that "the key factor is entrepreneurship."
Dirioz deems innovation, particularly in technology, as a driving force of China's high-quality growth.
China has put high-quality development among the top of its governance agenda, highlighting it as the first and foremost task in building a modern socialist country in all respects.
The concept means a change from merely seeking growth to seeking better growth and seeking quality over quantity.
As a scholar closely following the Asia-Pacific region, Dirioz has witnessed China's development and its impact on the world at large.
Impressed by China's development, the expert said that through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and other initiatives, China has strengthened economic ties with many countries and boosted regional and global economic growth.
Türkiye signed a memorandum of understanding with China on BRI cooperation in 2015 to align with its Middle Corridor plan, which connects Türkiye and Europe to China via a trans-Caspian transport route.
Dirioz also praised China's commitment to opening up despite geopolitical tensions and rising trade protectionism in the world.
He believed that entrepreneurship, sci-tech innovation and creativity, as well as business in general, require openness, and in this context, he praised the interest of Chinese companies in investing and doing business in Türkiye.
He encouraged enthusiastic entrepreneurs worldwide to take advantage of China's opening-up policy to boost their businesses.
"If we continue to build walls and borders, and if we're less open, we'll have fewer exchanges, not just of products, but of ideas and cultures," Dirioz added.
