BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Sanming City in southeast China's Fujian Province has recently achieved full coverage of electric vehicle (EV) charging piles across all its towns, addressing the challenge of limited charging options and promoting sustainable transportation.
By October, all 128 administrative towns in Sanming's nine counties and two districts were equipped with public charging piles. The city now has 520 charging stations and 8,865 charging piles, significantly easing EV owners' concerns about running out of charge.
"With a charging pile now available in my town, I decided to replace my fuel-powered car with an EV. In less than a month, I saved over 800 yuan in fuel costs," said Xiao Tingfeng, head of Fujian Ningxing Building Materials Technology Co., Ltd.
Xiao's company is located about 30 kilometers from Ninghua County. Previously, his daily commute between the county and his workplace cost him over 70 yuan in fuel expenses.
Lin Fan, head of the Sanming branch of State Grid Fujian Integrated Energy Service Group Co., Ltd., said that most EVs consume 14 to 18 kWh per 100 kilometers, costing about 16 to 20 yuan, representing 60 to 70 percent less than the cost of fueling a gasoline-powered car.
In recent years, Sanming has focused on overcoming infrastructure challenges by installing fast and slow charging piles and utilizing low-voltage connectivity to build charging stations, successfully achieving the full coverage of EV charging piles in rural areas.
