BEIJING, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Honghua Town in Tancheng County of east China's Shandong Province is renowned as the "Hometown of Chinese Knotting Art" and serves as the largest production hub for Chinese knots in east China.

Each year, the town produces over 600 designs and thousands of styles, spanning four main categories including home decorations, car ornaments, festive decorations, and wedding accessories. These exquisite creations are highly sought after both domestically and globally.

As the core production area, Honghua Town is home to a community of skilled artisans who employ traditional knotting techniques such as double coin knots, button knots, and auspicious cloud knots. Using single, double, or multiple strands of thread, they intricately weave knots of numerous variety.

Local craftsmen have also combined traditional knotting with other art forms, including cloisonne filigree, porcelain baking and peach wood carving, enriching their designs with vibrant cultural elements and artistic appeal. Many of these innovative products become instant market hits.

The art of Chinese knotting in Tancheng dates back to the Tang and Song dynasties, when mastering these techniques was considered an essential skill for young women.

Today, this provincial intangible cultural heritage has been revived through the dedication of generations of artisans. It not only preserves a rich historical legacy but also thrives in modern markets, showcasing its enduring vitality.
