BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Aojiao Village of Dongshan County in southeast China's Fujian Province celebrated a season of harvest in October as fishing boats returned laden with fresh catches, quickly processed and shipped nationwide.
The village's growth story is fueled not only by its rich marine resources but also by reliable power infrastructure.
In recent years, the village has evolved from a traditional fishing community into a beautiful fishing village, integrating fishing, aquaculture, seafood processing, e-commerce, and rural tourism. This transformation has earned it the title of "Ocean Granary".
Today, the village is home to 128 aquaculture bases cultivating abalone, shrimp, kelp, and seaweed, generating an annual marine harvest valued at 330 million yuan, with aquaculture alone bringing in another 370 million yuan.
Reliable power has been a key to its success. Back in 2007, State Grid Fujian Electric Power Co., Ltd. included the village in its first round of rural electrification upgrades, laying 5 kilometers of 10-kV lines, adding three transformers, and upgrading over 200 aging power meters.
Since then, employees of State Grid Fujian have made regular visits to inspect the village's power infrastructure, including seafood processing plants, e-commerce companies, and ice factories. They provide equipment checks, address safety issues, and advise villagers on safe and efficient power use.
In 2021, to meet growing demand for electricity for e-commerce and seafood processing, State Grid Dongshan branch expanded the 10-kV power lines and completed upgrades for e-commerce enterprises. The company also set up power usage profiles for e-commerce businesses and now provides regular on-site services to troubleshoot their power needs.
In 2023, Fujian's marine economy reached 1.2 trillion yuan in output, ranking third in the country. The province also leads in seafood production, aquaculture output, and marine seed cultivation, with its seafood exports topping the nation.
In response, State Grid Dongshan has undertaken a comprehensive rural power grid upgrade in 2023, installing 275 new and renovated 10-kV lines and 2,724 supply stations, achieving a rural power reliability rate of 99.96 percent.
As these grid improvements progress, the quality of power services continues to rise. State Grid Fujian has set up power service points in 654 villages, integrating power services into local governance to provide convenient, local solutions for power-related needs.
Reliable and sufficient power is driving the village's growth, improving livelihoods, and boosting quality of life for every villagers, said Lin Huazhong, Party chief of the village.
