BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- New energy power generation in Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which is rich in wind and solar resources, reported double digit growth in the first eight months of this year.
According to the State Grid Changji Power Supply Company, the new energy power generation in Changji surged 31 percent year on year to 15.6 billion kWh by the end of August this year, with the average monthly growth rate exceeding 30 percent.
Among them, wind and solar power generation increased 18 percent and 65 percent year on year to 10.1 billion kWh and 5.5 billion kWh, respectively.
The installed capacity of new energy in Changji has reached 11 million kilowatts by the end of August this year, accounting for 29 percent of the total installed capacity in Changji.
The new energy industry has become the main driving force for fixed asset investment in Changji.
In the first eight months of this year, the completed investment in 37 wind and solar power projects in the prefecture rose 14.6 percent year on year. (Edited by Yang Yifan with Xinhua Silk Road, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
