BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- A "5G+power distribution automation" project based on 5G RedCap technology was recently put into operation in Zhengzhou, capital city of central China's Henan Province, marking the province's latest effort to boost 5G-enabled power distribution network construction.
In recent years, Henan has been promoting the integration of digital technology with the power industry. State Grid Henan Electric Power Company, the local power grid company, has established large-scale "5G+" demonstration applications for the power industry across the province, with focus on creating a 5G IoT ecosystem. As of September this year, over 20,000 units of 5G terminals have been deployed in the power system across the province.
"Since 2021, State Grid Henan Electric Power has promoted the large-scale application of '5G+source-network-load-storage' across all aspects of power grid operations. This provides better solutions for wireless communication access in the power grid system and also boosts the 5G technology industry chain," said Shen Jing, Deputy General Manager of State Grid Henan Information and Communication Company.
State Grid Henan Electric Power has created a series of demonstration application scenarios, including 5G+transmission monitoring, 5G+substation inspection, 5G+distribution area, and 5G+electricity consumption data collection. In Lankao, a county in northeast Henan, about 2,608 public transformer areas across the county have been covered by 5G integrated terminals. Compared to traditional 4G transmission methods, the accuracy of power outage fault diagnosis was increased to 98.4 percent, helping Lankao become the nation's first pilot county for rural energy revolution.
