State Grid Changji Branch leads trend of green power consumption in NW. China's Xinjiang

August 12, 2024

Abstract : A charging service station in Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has recently purchased the green electricity certificates, marking the first charging station in Xinjiang to register green power trading and facilitate green electricity services for consumers.

BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- A charging service station in Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has recently purchased the green electricity certificates, marking the first charging station in Xinjiang to register green power trading and facilitate green electricity services for consumers.

Renewable electricity producers can obtain a government-issued certificate which represents 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy, and sell the certificate for economic and environmental benefits.

The charging service station, built by the the State Grid Changji Power Supply Company, is the first charging station in Xinjiang to adopt mobile sliding rail technology. With the green electricity certificates, the 49 charging piles of the station have fully completed green electricity trading.

"We have recently bought 60 green electricity certificates, which are equivalent to 60,000 kWh of electricity, fully meeting our green power needs for this year," said Liu Bingchen, the person in charge of the construction of the station from State Grid Changji Power Supply Company.

This action demonstrates the company's firm determination in embracing green power consumption and reducing carbon emissions.

The purchased green certificates are not only used to subsidize renewable energy power generation companies to enhance their market competitiveness but also help promote more renewable energy production, said Han Honggang, a marketing specialist from the marketing department of the State Grid Changji Power Supply Company.

With the prevalence of electric passenger cars in Xinjiang this year, the company has chosen charging stations as the first pilot to guide the public to consume more new energy electricity in daily travel, supporting the country's low-carbon development goals with practical actions.

At present, there are 20,000 new energy vehicle charging points in Xinjiang, with an annual charging volume of about 50 million kWh. Changji has made significant achievements in the construction of charging piles, achieving full coverage of charging facilities in high-speed service areas and townships.
