Luxuryspa opens in China to make pools and tubs for cruise ships

August 01, 2024

Abstract : The Venetian company founded by Gianpietro Da Re already counts among its clients including Aida Cruises, Azamara, Carnival, Costa Crociere, Disney Cruise Line, Holland America Line, and Norwegian Cruise Line. Based in Guangzhou, it will also serve the growing market of China's new rich, as well as major shipyards.

MILAN, July 29 (Class Editori) -- Venetian Luxuryspa, the only company in Italy specializing in the design, production, replacement, and maintenance of acrylic pools and whirlpool tubs exclusively for cruise ships, is expanding its horizons and opening a new company in China.

The company, which has its Italian headquarters in San Vendemiano in the province of Treviso, already has two sister companies: Luxuryspa Inc. in the United States and Luxuryspa GmbH in Germany, two branches created "to better manage numerous foreign orders." The Venetian company now officially lands in Asia with the intention of riding the favorable wave of a growing market.

The company, formally established on July 8, will have its operational base in Guangzhou and will operate on three fronts: serving the private sector by selling Italian design items to China's emerging new class, monitoring Asian production from a technical standpoint, and closely following the evolution of Chinese shipyards, which are also beginning to enter the cruise business.

"China today represents a fundamental asset for us because it has equipment and machinery that are lacking in Europe and that allow us to carry out finishes and technical details that would otherwise be difficult to achieve," Gianpietro Da Re explained. "Last year, I started a dialogue with this country precisely to optimize production with cutting-edge solutions; the situation then evolved, pushing me to transform what was initially just an occasional collaboration into something more stable and structured."

"By visiting various fairs, I realized that 'Made in Italy' is very strong in China, especially among the new elite of wealthy individuals who love beauty and everything Italian. In shopping malls, the showrooms of our furniture brands occupy huge spaces. So, I thought the time was right to open an Asian branch of Luxuryspa to produce, among other things, design whirlpool tubs to offer to this particularly stimulating and receptive clientele," added the entrepreneur.

Founded in 2009, with a total turnover of 26 million euros and 100 internal and external resources, Luxuryspa today counts among its partners all the main national and international shipping companies: Aida Cruises, Azamara, Carnival, Costa Crociere, Disney Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Silversea, and Windstar Cruises.

"China," Da Re added, "represents a challenge that is necessary in some ways. The East is the future, especially in the naval field, and we cannot ignore it. I already have an intermediary figure on site: a young man initially hired as an interpreter and who now acts as my intermediary with Italy. Additionally, because I firmly believe in the value of family entrepreneurship, I wanted my son Giovanni as a partner in this new adventure. He will closely follow the company and the projects related to it.”

"It is a way to express my trust in him but also to give him responsibility in view of the future generational transition. Obviously, now that Luxuryspa China is formally established, we will proceed with interviews and hiring the rest of the staff so that by the end of the year we can start working at full capacity and reap the first fruits of our bet." Da Re concluded, "I was born in Luxuryspa and cannot imagine my existence outside of this company that I saw grow in the dreams and hands of my father. The idea of writing another chapter of our company history together with him fills me with pride and, at the same time, invests me with significant responsibility. For this reason, the development of Luxuryspa China is my sole goal at the moment, and I intend to pursue it with maximum commitment."
