BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Several staffs with the State Grid Corporation of China went to Zouma Town in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality last Friday for routine inspections of power lines and facilities, while conducting safety checks and offering follow-up suggestions for safety hazards.
State Grid has started to carry out special renovation and upgrading of power lines and facilities in Zouma Town since 2018. With years of efforts, today's Zouma Ancient Town has taken on a new look. All power lines are laid with underground cables, making the streets fresh and tidy. Data shows that the power supply capacity has been improved after the renovation, with the reliability reaching 99.99 percent.
Such significant improvement not only makes better the quality of life of local residents, but also provides reliable power supply for the constructions of venues for exhibition of local cultural heritage.
At the same time, with improvement of power infrastructure, local economy has also witnessed new development and opportunities. Relying on the stable power supply, the town vigorously develops rural tourism and characteristic industries. Since 2019, Zouma Town has received over 1 million tourists, achieving tourism revenue of 82.32 million yuan (about 11.32 million U.S. dollars).
In addition, the development of rural characteristic industries including fruit trees, flowers and vegetables has driven the average annual income of local farmers to increase by more than 20,000 yuan. The town has also made the attempt to engage in e-commerce, introducing 15 categories of rural products to online customers.
In the past three years, State Grid has invested 3.71 billion yuan in the transformation of rural power grids in Chongqing, completing 6,009 kilometers of new and renovated power lines, as a bid to support the integrated development of rural revitalization.
