BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The upcoming Paris Olympics will mark the groundbreaking application of AI technology in Olympic history. The International Olympic Committee has partnered with Alibaba Cloud to utilize the Tongyi visual model technology to colorize historical Olympic footage accurately. Alibaba Cloud’s Tongyi large models will also be applied in various scenarios during the Paris Olympics.
Since August 2023, Alibaba Cloud has successively opened the source code for its basic models of Tongyi Qianwen with 500 million, 1.8 billion, 4 billion, 7 billion, 14 billion, 32 billion, 72 billion and 110 billion parameters, and has promoted their application worldwide. These models, based on their high performance and open-source features, have attracted a large number of global developers and researchers and have been well-received in countries such as Japan, the United States, France, Vietnam and Singapore, promoting AI application innovation, exchanges and cooperation on a global scale.
Alibaba Cloud's Tongyi open-source models are mainly downloaded and used through China's ModelScope community and the Hugging Face community abroad. The downloads has exceeded 16 million. Taking the ModelScope community as an example, it provides detailed usage documents, best practices, datasets, and training frameworks to help developers better use the large models.

Boundless Innovation Boosting Global Intelligent Upgrades
Tongyi Qianwen has already garnered many follower groups overseas. Rinna, a Japanese startup, has been continuously training its Nekomata model using Qwen-7B and Qwen-14B. "Tongyi Qianwen's word segmentation technology significantly improves the Nekomata model's efficiency in processing Japanese text," said a Rinna executive. With a vocabulary of 152,000 words, Alibaba Cloud's Qwen series achieves high efficiency in Japanese reasoning. Based on Tongyi Qianwen's large language models, Rinna has further developed and launched four instruction-following language models that respond to user commands, contributing to the advancement of Japanese AI research and development.

Tongyi Qianwen has also gained widespread attention on foreign social media. Tanich Matthew Abraham from California said China is making significant contributions to the AI ecosystem and community. Without any special proof, Qwen-72B can provide answers. Vietnamese netizen qnguyen3 praised Qwen-72B as "ready to use without fine-tuning." When another netizen complained that the Qwen-72B model was too large to test easily, the Vietnamese netizen immediately recommended the Qwen-14B from the open-source Tongyi model family. Dify.AI's Japan promoter Sangmin noted that Chinese AI research is advancing at an astonishing pace, with Qwen-72B having capabilities closest to GPT-4, and expressed anticipation for new updates to Tongyi Qianwen.
Alibaba Cloud is also integrating generative AI capabilities into the technology of LVMH group, including the Tongyi Qianwen large language model and the AI model-building platform: Alibaba Cloud Bailian. On May 23, 2024, Alibaba Cloud announced plans to invest in new data centers in five countries (the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Mexico), focusing on AI infrastructure. Additionally, Alibaba Cloud's AI technology will make its overseas debut. The international version of the large model service platform Bailian is set to launch, offering one-stop, fully delegated large model customization and application services. The latest foundational model, Tongyi Qianwen 2.5, will also provide API access through the Bailian platform.

Since its inception, Tongyi Qianwen has been a market focal point. "In the overseas market, we support multiple languages, which is a very prominent feature of the Tongyi large model series, especially in the Southeast Asian region, where the performance feedback has been very positive. We will continue to invest in this area," said Zhou Jingren, CTO of Alibaba Cloud, reiterating the commitment to open source. "The contribution of the open-source ecosystem to the global technology field is undeniable."
