BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) -- China's leading telecommunications operators, China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom, are poised to harness the potential of 5G-Advanced (5G-A) to drive the growth of the low-altitude economy.
The low-altitude economy, encompassing a range of activities involving both manned and unmanned aerial vehicles, requires advanced capabilities in communication, perception, navigation, and management.
These telecom operators are enhancing their networks to enable integrated communication and perception through 5G-A, an upgraded version of 5G that paves the way towards 6G.
At the just-concluded three-day 2024 Mobile World Congress held in east China's Shanghai, these operators showcased significant advancements.
For example, China Mobile unveiled the first 5G-A integrated communication and perception trial platform in the industry. China Telecom introduced new "satellite+" products for aerial rescue, drone logistics, and low-altitude tourism. China Unicom launched a comprehensive low-altitude intelligent network system to tackle drone control, transmission quality, airspace management, and data security issues.
The low-altitude economy is expected to spawn numerous applications, from food delivery and parcel services to high-definition video transmission and inspection, which will further drive revenue growth of these telecom operators, according to industry insiders.
