BEIJING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- The scale of China's food ingredient consumption market increased 10.31 percent year on year to 9.37 trillion yuan (about 1.29 trillion U.S. dollars) in 2023, Cui Zhongfu, vice chairman of China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing (CFLP) said on Thursday in Huizhou City, south China's Guangdong Province.
In breakdown, the consumption amount of food ingredients for catering services rose 20.45 percent year on year to 2.12 trillion yuan last year, and that of retail ingredients reached 7.25 trillion yuan, up 7.66 percent year on year, according to the China Food Ingredient Supply Chain Development Report (2024) released by the CFLP on Thursday.
China remains the world's largest food ingredient consumer. It is also a leading producer, with its food ingredient output accounting for about a quarter of the world's total, said Cui.
He pointed out that China had forged closer trade relations with Belt and Road partner countries in 2023. The amount of China's agricultural products trade with the partner countries reached 138 billion U.S. dollars last year, accounting for 41.44 percent of the total foreign trade of agricultural products.
