BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Changzhou City in east China's Jiangsu Province recently held a culture and tourism promotion conference in Paris.
The Grand Canal in China runs through the city of Changzhou, while France is famous for the Seine River. The two places, both with long history and rich cultural connotation, embraced the opportunity for exchanges and mutual learning.
At the event, Chen Zhiliang, director of the publicity department of CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee, introduced the city under the theme of "The Grand Canal: rencontre & delectation", traced the bond between Changzhou and France, and demonstrated Changzhou's industrial foundation and cultural heritage, showing the charm of an open, warm, and livable city of Changzhou.
Traditional Chinese medicine, block printing, tea art and folk music and other intangible cultural relics from Changzhou city were displayed during the event, allowing French friends to experience the beauty of traditional Chinese culture at close range.
In addition, "The Grand Canal: rencontre & delectation" cultural exchange activity was also carried out by Changzhou in Yili Garden, Paris.
Located in the southwest outskirts of Paris, Yili Garden was the first Chinese-style garden in France with characters from the traditional Chinese Suzhou Gardens. Since its opening to public in 2004, a number of activities to spread Chinese culture were held here.
At present, France is promoting "re-industrialization" based on green innovation. While China's Changzhou, dubbed as a capital of new energy, is one of Chinese cities having the most complete new energy industrial chain. The economic and trade exchanges between China's Changzhou and France become increasingly frequent.
Up to now, 62 French companies, including Alstom, Saint-Gobain, Faurecia, Decathlon and other Fortune 500 and well-known multinational companies, have invested in Changzhou. (Edited by Gao Jingyan with Xinhua Silk Road, gaojingyan@xinhua.org)
