BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) -- The final of the second Guizhou "Gorgeous Countryside" Basketball League, dubbed as "Cun BA" by Chinese netizens, wrapped up on April 27 in Taipan Village, southwest China's Guizhou Province.
Kaili team from Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture in southeast Guizhou defeated Weining team from Bijie City in northwest of the province with a score of 83:58, putting an end to the match attracting nearly 20,000 spectators.
In 2021, Guizhou Province launched its "Gorgeous Countryside" campaign, aiming to promote development in rural China via culture, tourism and sports. The village basketball tournament featuring amateur farmer players was included in this campaign.
Ethnic and rural cultures were interwoven in this year's "Cun BA" matches. During competition breaks, local art troupes performed traditional ethnic dances, and local agricultural products such as cows, sheep and pigs were given as prizes to the top three winning teams.
With popularity of the "Cun BA", Taipan Village had launched a fair, presenting specialty agricultural products, intangible cultural heritage products, and local food to the audience.
The village had also set up "Cun BA"-themed experience stores, restaurants and drink shops, providing jobs for over 1,000 villagers. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
