BEIJING, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- Recently, Central China’s Hunan Province has been hit by the strongest cold wave in nearly 50 years, with its power grid threatened by rain, snow and freeze. In response, State Grid Hunan Electric Power Company Limited has made all-out efforts such as continuous ice monitoring and technology-driven deicing to ensure power supply.
In terms of continuous ice monitoring, 1,885 mobile poles and 157 fixed poles have been set up in Hunan Province, with over 4,200 workers stationed at these poles. There are two power workers checking the thickness of ice on the poles and towers every two hours at the poles of the 220 kV Zaopan Wire in Shimen County, Hunan Province.

In terms technology-driven deicing, the company has installed various new-type ice monitoring equipment, including 160 deicing facilities, drones, and multi-purpose cameras.
The personnel on duty and operation inspectors of the Xiangtan Branch of State Grid Hunan Electric Power have been conducting remote monitoring and on-site inspections in the panoramic monitoring center to keep themselves informed of ice coverage and carry out deicing operations when necessary.
From February 21 to 25, State Grid Hunan Electric Power has completed a total of 185 ice melting operations and 152 ice removal operations. (Edited by Yang Linlin with Xinhua Silk Road, linlinyanglyn@163.com)
