BEIJING, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Since the beginning of this year, power plants of a 10,000-mu (about 666.67 hectares) fishery and photovoltaic complementary project in Nantong City of east China's Jiangsu Province has been successively put into operation and connected to the grid, optimizing regional energy structure.
To ensure stable power transmission, local power supply department arranged supporting transmission project in advance, with about 3.7 kilometers of planned transmission line, 12 base towers, and a rated transmission capacity of 600 megawatts. Once running on full capacity, the project is expected to reach an average annual power generation of 710 million kilowatt-hours (kWh).
The city of Nantong is located on the coast of the Yellow Sea. With stable geological conditions, sufficient sunlight, abundant solar energy resources and unique tidal flat resources, the city is a preferred location for many photovoltaic energy development companies.
It is reported that the installed capacity of new energy in Nantong has reached over 12.14 million kilowatts, of which photovoltaic capacity amounts to over 4.6 million kilowatts. In the year 2023, new energy power generation in Nantong totaled 21.72 billion kWh, while the total power consumption in the city was around 65.85 billion kWh, meaning that green power accounts for 32.98 percent of the city's total power consumption.
To provide strong support for regional grid to ensure new energy consumption, State Grid Nantong Power Supply Company has been striving to make full use of existing power grids and reserve channels for future lines. Being able to dynamically manage the database of local new energy reserves, the company can prioritize projects with mature resource conditions and strong consumption capacities into implementation, as well as introduce new energy storage projects.
By collecting data including regional load curves and users' carbon emissions, the company can predict power generation and make regulations based on storage situation, providing reasonable suggestions for general control, according to a representative with State Grid Nantong Power Supply Company.
