BEIJING, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- A cross-border freight train loaded with 62 containers of over 1,600 tonnes of barley arrived at an international land port in China's coal-rich province of Shanxi on Monday.
The barley worth more than 274,000 U.S. dollars were imported from countries and regions participating in the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The arrival of the train fully leveraged the logistics function of the China-Europe freight train services and brought import and export goods from surrounding regions to gather around at the Shanxi's inland port, said an official at the international land port.
In recent years, the province has launched China-Europe freight trains to link European countries including Germany, Italy and Poland, and also opened international freight train services to connect Southeast Asian country of Laos as well as Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
