BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- With performances featuring local culture, a celebrating event for the new year was held on January 13 at the culture auditorium of Mafuxia Village in Wuyi County of Jinhua, east China's Zhejiang Province.
It is a tradition for rural areas in Jinhua to hold such celebrating events around the season of lunar new year. With performers varying from professionals at local theaters to farmers and folk artists in the region, the event is greatly valued by local residents as an important part of spiritual and cultural life.
The main venue for this year's event, the culture auditorium of Mafuxia Village, has been occasionally carrying out cultural events since it was built, with a singing contest held recently when crowds of people were gathered, boosting local business and rural development.
So far, there are 2,782 such culture auditoriums in the city of Jinhua. In addition to serving as a fulfillment to local people's leisure time, the auditoriums also provide more opportunities for local performers to get on stage. It is worth mentioning that Wuyi County has developed online-booking platform to collect villagers' preferences for upcoming shows, in a bid to accurately meet the cultural needs of local mass.
"Over this past year, we have delivered over 20 performances in various places through orders from the online platform," said Bao Luping, a local performer.
To further enhance the functions of the culture auditoriums, local villages are putting plenty of thoughts into it. By utilizing idle houses and factories, establishing fund-raising mechanisms that involve participation of both public and private sectors, launching training courses based on featured local resources and advantageous industries and so on, villages in Jinhua have been continuously exploring innovative ways to enrich cultural lives in rural areas.
