The view of Germany's economy among business leaders brightened in October for the first time since the spring, according to a leading survey of business managers. The Munich-based ifo Institute's business climate index rose by 1.1 points to 86.9 in October from 85.8 points in September - the first increase since April.
"Germany's economy can see a silver lining ahead," said ifo President Clemens Fuest. Experts had expected an increase, but only to 86 points. Companies are more satisfied with their current business and less pessimistic about the upcoming months, the institute reported.
Roughly 9,000 German companies were included in the survey.
