BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- German chemicals group Covestro announced on Tuesday that its new plant for polyurethane elastomers in east China's Shanghai was put into operation.
The new plant is located in the Covestro Integrated Site Shanghai (CISS). Construction of the new plant commenced in July of 2022, with the investment standing at tens of million euro level.
The new plant is expected to help meet ever rising demand for elastomers in the Asia-Pacific region in various applications such as offshore cable protection and silicon wafer cutting rollers of photovoltaic panels, said the company.
The CISS was built in 2001. Accommodating 12 plants, it is Covestro's single largest production base worldwide. From 2001 to the end of 2022, about 3.7 billion euros has been invested in the site. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
