BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Upon operation of Yujiapu electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Binhai New Area, Tianjian, a coastal municipality in north China, is seeing its convenient charging service circle further improved to better facilitate the low-carbon way of travel for people.
Covering an area of more than 4,000 square meters, the charging station has 77 parking lots for charging and is relatively sufficient to serve the charging demand of vehicles from traffic hubs, commercial squares and over ten surrounding residential communities.
With an estimated annual charging capacity of over two million kWh, the charging station helps improve the charging service guarantee for green travel in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei transportation circle and can reduce carbon emissions of 2,500 tonnes per year.

In the station, two sets of MW-level IGBT inverter-charging integrated power supply equipment are employed to realize flexible and reasonable distribution of electric capacity to the station's fast charging piles, which largely improves the charging efficiency.
Capable of maximal 180 kW of ultra high power charging, the equipment enables the charging piles to save nearly 70 percent of the charging time as compared to the regular charging piles, said Wei Xianjian, a client manager in the marketing department of Binhai power supply branch of State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company.
A series of innovative facilities are also applied in the Yujiapu EV charging station, including the automatic power distribution robots, automatic charging service robots, and mobile charging piles.
Among them, the automatic power distribution robots which are equipped with automatic driving technology and energy storage modules, can drive to designated locations outside the station under guidance of navigational information and provide charging and emergency rescue services for vehicles.

Boasting also a "zero-carbon" resting zone which relies completely on power supply through 237 PV panels on the roof and canopy, self-sufficiency of energy is out of question and people can directly experience the low-carbon life brought by the "zero-carbon" buildings, said Niu Boyan, chief engineer for project design with the economic technology research institute of State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company.
With multiple urban charging demonstration stations being put into operation in recent years, Tianjin has gradually realized full charging facilities coverage on expressways passing through the city and in electric buses parking stations and scenic areas of AAAA and higher level to service the green and low-carbon travel of local citizens.
