BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The total number of China-Europe freight train trips handled by southwest China's Chongqing Municipality and Chengdu, capital of the neighboring Sichuan Province has increased 29.6 percent year on year to 2,732 in the first half of this year, according to Chengdu International Railway Port Investment Development (Group) Co., Ltd.
More than 220,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of goods have been transported via the service, up 24 percent year on year, the company said.
Chongqing and Chengdu are among the earliest cities in China to start the China-Europe freight train service. As a significant measure in constructing the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, the two cities have cooperated since 2021 to improve the service.
At present, the China-Europe freight trains departing from the two cities can reach over 100 overseas cities.
