BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Through improving rural power grid, leading development of featured industries and providing consolidated power supply, State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company has been making intensive efforts in recent years to promote rural development in Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.
Yiju Township is the core tea producing area in the county. To meet the electricity demands of tea farmers, State Grid Youyang Power Supply Company, a subsidiary of State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company, has implemented new standards and technologies to improve the capacity of local grids.
Since 2021, the company has installed electrical connection for 182 tea processing plants in the township and launched several upgrading projects, achieving more than 1.55 million yuan (about 225,474 U.S. dollars) of cost reduction for local clients.

In March this year, State Grid Youyang Power Supply Company invested over 300,000 yuan for transformer installation near a tea plantation of a professional tea cooperative in the Jiantian Village of Yiju Township, as a bid to power up the electrical tea-fixation machines.
"Our tea processing efficiency went up by at least five times thanks to the operation of electrical machines," said Ran Jincheng, head of the cooperative, noting that the quality of tea had also been improved, indicating better sales.
Similarly, electrical automation facilities have also enabled a local camellia oil producer. "Stable power supply allows us to produce at full capacity," said Wang Chengfeng, a representative with the company. A production line with annual output of 10,000 tons of camellia oil is currently under construction and is expected to be put into operation by the end of next year, according to Wang.
In addition to tea industry, tourism sector in Youyang is witnessing prosper growth given stronger power supply. For instance, State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company has installed eight distribution transformers in recent years to support the power demand of Hejiayan Village in Huatian Township for rural tourism development.

Besides, the State Grid branch in Chongqing has invested over 3 million yuan last year to implement the power grid upgrading project in Youyang's Tianshanbao Village. With measures such as adding new transformers and 10-KV power grids, upgrading low-voltage lines and others, the company has provided solid foundation for local industrial development, said Ran Hui, director of the village.
In 2023, State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company plans to invest around 2.18 billion yuan in rural power grid, support the construction of over 100 rural electrification projects and continue to improve services for small and micro agricultural enterprises, promoting development of rural industries.
