VIENTIANE, April 1 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese company and a research institution signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Lao government on Friday to promote agricultural cooperation in the Lao capital Vientiane.
The MoU on tropical agricultural science and technology was signed between Yangguang Jiarun (Laos) Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. and South Subtropical Crops Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, and the Department of Agriculture of the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
Xie Fei, the general manager of the Yangguang Jiarun, told Xinhua on Saturday that under the framework of the MoU, all involved parties will collaborate to deepen cooperation on agricultural science and technology, with the aim to accelerate the application of research on the entire tropical agricultural industry chain.
"This will promote a new pattern of international agricultural cooperation between China and Laos," the Chinese Sichuan businessman said.
He added that they aim to build the Yangguang Jiarun (Laos) Eco-Agricultural Industry Project in southern Laos into a national agricultural demonstration base, a tropical crop germplasm resource library, a tropical agricultural scientific research and experimental project, and an agricultural training center in Laos.
