BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Total retail sales value of home appliances in China decreased 5.2 percent year on year to 835.2 billion yuan in 2022, according to a report released by China Center for Information Industry Development (CCID) on Wednesday.
The report on China's home appliance market in 2022 tells that online sales of home appliances and sales in small-town and rural markets increased significantly last year, stabilizing the overall industry.
In 2022, China's online retail sales of home appliances reached 486.1 billion yuan, up 4.24 percent year on year and accounting for 58.2 percent of the total sales. As the figures shows, the trend of online purchase of home appliances becomes prevailing in the country.
Home appliance sales in China's small-town and rural markets hit 285 billion yuan last year, accounting for 34.1 percent of the total, up from the 31.5 percent in 2021.
The report says new home appliances, which are high-quality, good-for-health and ease-of-use products that can provide users with new life scenarios, gained popularity in 2022. For example, high-speed blenders with self-cleaning function that sets users free from washing, sweeping robots that can automatically gather dust, replenish water and dry the floor, scrubbers that can intelligently detect dust and recycle sewage, and washing machines with a drying function have become well received.
The report predicts that China's home appliance consumption in 2023 is likely to recover to the level of 2021, with the country's greater efforts to spur consumption. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
