MILAN, Mar 6 (Class Editori) — The ARACNE Project (Advocating the Role of Silk Art and Cultural Heritage at National and European Scale) is starting, coordinated by the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA), involving institutional and private partners across Europe for the revitalization of the Italian silk industry and the establishment of a European silk route.
ARACNE, one of three projects coordinated by Italy that won the Horizon Europe Program, referring to cluster 2 “Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society,” with Destination 2 “Innovative Research on the European Cultural Heritage and the Cultural and Creative Industries”, dedicated to research and development in the cultural and creative sector. The project aims to create a European cultural identity related to the silk industry, restoring its life as an Italian excellence through the creation of a multi-actor network composed by the world of production, universities, institutions, schools, and civil society. The network will enhance a centuries-old past of great tradition and a present under the banner of innovation, sustainability, fashion, and tourism on the territory thanks to several multi- and interdisciplinary initiatives.
According to Luca De Carlo, President of the 9th Commission in the Senate, “ARACNE is a challenge to recover the cultural heritage related to Italian and European silk formed when sericulture was widespread, particularly in our territory, and our product could compete with that of China. A very ambitious project that, as Italy, we are proud to coordinate, aimed at a Silk Road 4.0, which is much more than a simple historical-cultural itinerary, but rather an opportunity for integrated, sustainable, and innovative revitalization and development for the many territories involved and for the many sectors of our society, ranging from different types of business to institutions, from schools to research”.
