BEIJING, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Zhulaoda, a local food maker widely known for its delicious sugarcoated haws in Linyi City of east China's Shandong Province, is bringing back the taste of happiness for many Chinese people.
On the streets of Linyi, people can always hear the loudspeakers of vendors and stores calling "Zhulaoda sugarcoated haws" and it is rather common for them to hold the thin sticks strung with sugarcoated haws when waiting for buses, walking or playing with kids.
In the cold winters in memory, eating sweet and sour sugarcoated haws made by Zhu Chengrong, a local craftswoman who registered Zhulaoda after being laid off from her previous work, could always satisfy the taste buds of local people.
At the very first of her career of making sugarcoated haws, Zhu encountered lots of difficulties. But thanks to her unremitting efforts, she finally discovered ways to produce sugarcoated haws not sticky and bitter, winning at the same time reputation from local people.
Now as the most popular sugarcoated haws brand in Linyi, Zhulaoda has developed sugarcoated oranges, bananas, Chinese yams, and cheery tomatoes with different tastes or stuff such as chocolate, fruit jam, and even cooked chicken or beef filled in for people with different preferences to select.
By learning from the packaging technology for ice cream, Zhu Chengrong and her team also worked to pack sugarcoated fruits with exquisite packaging and created a type of sugarcoated haws whose sugar coats do not melt in three months.
Once launched, the new type of sugarcoated haws that are the same with the traditional ones in quality and taste became immediately one of the best selling products of Zhulaoda, which now already opened 14 sub-factories across China. (Edited by Duan Jing with Xinhua Silk Road, duanjing@xinhua.org)
