The large industrial companies in the north eastern German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania increased their investments in environmental protection measures in 2020, according to a survey. Expenditure by the 268 companies included in a sample went up by 2.4 percent to around 259 million euros, according to the Statistical Office.
According to the report, almost half of this amount was spent on wastewater management or on reducing the volume of wastewater. According to the statistics, 76 million euros were also invested in climate protection - mainly in renewable energies - and 51 million euros in recycling, as well as the disposal and prevention of waste.
The results are part of an annual, nationwide survey of 10,000 companies in the manufacturing sector. "While the sample results do not provide a complete picture, they do indicate focal points of investments into industrial environmental protection," the report stated.
