BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) – The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) has run a total of 600 China-Europe freight trains since the beginning of this year, an increase of 85 percent over the same period last year, hitting a record high of freight train trips since its operation started in 2016, according to China Railway Guangzhou Group Co. , Ltd..
Since the beginning of this year, the China-Europe freight train in the GBA has transported a total of 356,800 tonnes of industrial chain and supply chain materials.
What's more, the bay area ushered in the peak period of train operation in the fourth quarter of this year. The number of freight trains in cities of Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Shenzhen has increased 25 percent year on year in October this year.
From 2016 to 2021, the number of freight trains operating in the GBA has increased year by year from 45 to 385 trips, recording an increase of more than 8 times.
Ning Zan, deputy director of Guangzhou Freight Center of China Railway Guangzhou Group Go., Ltd., said that the China-Europe freight train have maintained safe and stable operation despite the obstruction of shipping in the Eurasian continent due to multiple factors, ensuring the effective production and smooth transportation of living materials to countries along the freight train routes.
