BEIJING, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) – A China-Europe freight train loaded with cranes and other construction machinery left the city of Xuzhou in east China's Jiangsu Province on Saturday, heading for a port in Eastern Europe, marking the 350thChina-Europe freight train handled by Xuzhou since this year, reported Chinanews.com.
The freight train is expected to reach its destination in 10 days after passing through Manzhouli Port in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, saving 15 days of journey compared with conventional shipping.
From January to September this year, local enterprises in Xuzhou achieved about 138 million U.S. dollars in export trade through the China-Europe freight train services, accounting for 47.6 percent of total local exports during the same period.
So far this year, Xuzhou recorded a total of 400 million U.S. dollars of cargo value via the freight train, increased about 11.4 percent from the same period last year, making the freight train service a more prominent role in stabilizing supply chain of foreign trade enterprises in Xuzhou.
As the core carrier for Xuzhou to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the operation of the freight train is also an important measure for Xuzhou to facilitate international economic and trade cooperation, according to relevant person in charge of Xuzhou Huaihai International Trade & Logistics Park.
By now, Xuzhou has opened a total of 18 China-Europe freight train routes connecting the city with more than 50 cities in 21 countries and regions in Europe and Asia. (Edited by Jiang Feifan with Xinhua Silk Road, 346129473@qq.com)
