FREETOWN, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese medical team in Sierra Leone on Thursday provided training on malaria prevention and treatment for medical staff at the China-Sierra Leone Friendship Hospital.
The training provided by the Chinese doctors took the form of a PowerPoint presentation, video documentary, and practical work, and was aimed at boosting their counterparts' capacity of dealing with the epidemic disease.
Zhan Xinjie, a laboratory specialist from the team, introduced knowledge about the disease and delved into different types of parasites that caused malaria in various parts of the world and imparted the latest laboratory diagnosis methods to the local medical staff.
"We hope they could have a deeper insight into the disease and work together to intensity prevention and treatment through the training," he said.
Sallieu Kamara, a local doctor at the hospital, thanked the team for putting together a comprehensive training package for the local staff, saying the new knowledge will support them in diagnosing malaria more rapidly.
He noted that the hospital is still challenged with a lack of equipment to perform the practical diagnoses and called on the Chinese side to continue offering them support. "With the competent and trained staff, we are committed to saving more lives."
