MILAN, Sep 29 (Class Editori) — The Milan Innovation District (MIND), the development area in the northern suburbs of the Lombard capital that hosts the Human Technopole, among other things, is looking to Asia at increase its attractiveness to businesses and research centers. In recent weeks, it has hosted two major events, as per agreements signed with partners to publicize opportunities for exchange of knowledge, capital, students and startups.
On September 7 and 8, MIND partners told Chinese giant Tus Holdings, the holding company of TusPark, China’s largest science park network, about their vision and projects. The online event was held over two days, each dedicated to one of MIND's two verticals, namely life sciences and smart cities.
After an introduction by the Lombardy Region and the City of Milan, important representatives of the Chinese partner spoke: Herbert Chen, Senior Executive Vice President of Tus Holdings Co. and President of the International Association of Science Parks (IASP); Wang Yuanhua, Deputy Director of Nanjing Science and Technology Bureau; Tang Hao, Managing Director of Jiangsu TusPark Research Institute; Chenyun Qian, Project Manager of the Medicine Valley Development Bureau.
In the second event on September 23, a delegation from Kyoto Research Park (KRP) visited MIND. The Japanese Arexpo partner, represented by Managing Director Shojiro Oka and Shigekata Mizuno, Advisor for Public and International Cooperation, was welcomed by the district partners.
The KRP will host a MIND delegation in October. This first in-person meeting with KRP is part of an articulated work with Japan, which will host the upcoming Expo 2025 in Osaka. After the visit of Kenji Wakamiya, the Minister for Expo 2025, an Osaka delegation will visit MIND on October 5.
MIND is a candidate to host the headquarters of the future Ministry of Innovation, and Arexpo, the public company that owns the area where the infrastructure is being developed, led by Igor Di Blasio, is committed to support this candidacy.
The creation of MIND embraces the ambition of a functional urban development within the path of decarbonization, in line with the international commitment of Lendlease, the Australian Group in charge of real estate development, to reduce the rise in temperature to 1.5°C.
The measures include every aspect of the district, considering its entire life cycle, from building materials to energy efficiency, from mobility to resource management thanks to digital intelligence. The horizon is a totally carbon-free settlement, free from fossil fuels in its everyday life, and in line with the LEED Cities and Communities Gold certification standards.
