BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- A new China-Europe freight train route was recently launched to link Korla City, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Russia's Kaliningrad region via Alashankou Port in Xinjiang, reported Beijing Daily Monday.
Statistics showed that since the beginning of this year, a total of 21 new China-Europe freight train routes via Alashankou Port have been launched, including four routes setting out from Xinjiang.
Currently, there are 86 operational China-Europe train routes entering China or leave for Europe from the Alashankou port with an daily average of 17 freight trains passing by. These train routes cover 25 domestic provinces and 19 countries including Germany, Poland, and Russia, transporting 200 kinds of goods such as electronic products and daily necessities.
Cao Baopeng, a salesman of an Alashankou local logistics company, said that Alashankou port is the closest railway port to Europe. The customs and railway departments of Alashankou have opened a 24-hour green channel for the China-Europe freight train clearance.
