BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- China's mobile phone shipments dropped 9.4 percent year on year to 20.81 million units in May, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), a research institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Among them, 5G phone shipments increased 6.0 percent to 17.74 million units, accounting for 85.3 percent of the total shipments in May, CAICT said.
Besides, a total of 24 new models were released last month, down 11.1 percent from a year earlier.
Meanwhile, smartphone shipments declined 9.1 percent year on year to 20.56 million units in May, accounting for 98.8 percent of the gross shipments last month. (Edited by Yang Yifan with Xinhua Silk Road, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
