BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The certificating ceremony for the 35th batch of multinational corporations' regional headquarters and R&D centers settled in east China's Shanghai was held on Wednesday, when foreign enterprises expressed their confidence in the city, lauding its talent resources and business environment, reported Chinanews.com.
"We set up our regional headquarters in Shanghai primarily because it is a place that attracts talents from all over the world to settle down and have a career," said Chen Jiayuan, CEO of North Asia at Louis Dreyfus (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., noting that the city's innovative model in business, technology and government management, as well as its advantageous location, well-developed industrial chain and favorable business environment are also important factors.
Shanghai's development pace and unique business environment have also impressed Dyson, the British household appliances manufacturer. "Shanghai will be the hub for Dyson's long-term development in China. In the next two years, we plan to invest 100 million British pounds (120.63 million U.S. dollars) in China for localized production and the expansion of R&D center," said Huang Shaojie, vice president of Greater China at Dyson Technology (Shanghai) Limited.
The pressures felt by foreign-funded enterprises amid the COVID-19 resurgence in Shanghai is an indicator of how important the city is as an open city and a window to connect China with the world, according to Xiao Weirong, director of Great China at B&R Industrial Automation (China) Co., Ltd.
The stable foundation of Shanghai's institutional development and supply chain allows foreign firms to maintain confidence in the city and in the Chinese market. It is the goverment's job to provide solid service in return of such trust put in Shanghai, said Zhu Yi, vice director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce.
On Wednesday's ceremony, Gong Zheng, the mayor of Shanghai issued certificates to 30 regional headquarters and 10 R&D centers of multinational corporations. By end of May, a total of 848 regional headquarters and 512 R&D centers of multinational corporations had settled in Shanghai, according to data from the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce.
