BEIJING, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Recent data shows that in the first quarter of 2022, customs authorities in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has supervised the export of 138 tons of hotpot soup base worth 3.508 million yuan (about 527,603.2 U.S, dollars), up 61.97 percent and 90.96 percent year on year, respectively, reported Chinanews.com.
The overseas market for hotpot base is looking at growing potentials, as hotpot has become increasingly popular among not only Chinese, according to Chen Yunzhu, who has run a hotpot restaurant for many years in the U.S. city of San Francisco. "As much as Chinese customers come to the restaurant looking for a taste of hometown, we also have a good number of foreign customers," Chen said.
Besides, foreign figures are seen in the hotpot industry as well, such as the Italian entrepreneur Gianluca Luisi, also known by his Chinese name Zhang Luka, who not only is a huge fan of hotpot himself, but also has been making intensive efforts in promoting the Chinese spicy flavor to the world.
The diversified overseas shopping channels developed in recent years have offered new opportunities and markets for exporting hotpot bases, according to insiders of the industry. However, as prepackaged food, hotpot bases would have to meet different standards and demands under rules and regulations of different countries when being exported. Some flavors containing animal oil are required to go through the quarantine procedures, which means the export process can be relatively complicated.
The Chongqing Customs, to this end, has been striving to support the exporting firms. By intervening in the export process in a timely manner, focusing on source control of the products, helping enterprises strengthen the tracing of raw materials, and promoting the construction of enterprise standard system and certification system for the industry, the customs is committed to promoting continuous development of new markets and expanding the export scale for hotpot bases with Chongqing features.
