BEIJING, April 21 (Xinhua) -- The output value of China's unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) industry is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan this year, Yang Jincai, chairman of Shenzhen UAV Industry Association said on Wednesday.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic which greatly dampened the development of some industries, China's UAV industry has managed to maintain a growth rate of 30 percent due to drone application in contactless distribution and other sectors, Yang said at the press conference of the 6th Drone World Congress 2022 and the 7th Shenzhen International UAV Expo scheduled to be held from July 1 to 3.
The industry is enjoying a strong development momentum, with China opening up low-altitude airspace for general aviation and improving related regulations, Yang added.
The country is piloting low-altitude airspace management reform in Sichuan, Hunan, Hainan, Jiangxi and some other provinces, as low-altitude economy represented by UAV is expected to become a new engine to drive social and economic growth.
China's UAV industry grew rapidly last year. More than 7,000 firms in the country obtained civil UAV operation licenses, with the transaction value reaching 87 billion yuan. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
