Fincantieri to build two more vessels for the offshore wind sector

April 18, 2022

Abstract : This brings the number of vessels in Norwegian Norwind Offshore’s portfolio to four, after the order placed in October 2021. New options for two additional vessels were also agreed on. The value of the contract has not been announced, but according to Equita SIM it amounts to 100 million euros

MILAN, Apr 14 (Class Editori) — Fincantieri will build two more vessels for the offshore wind sector. Through its subsidiary Vard, the company signed a contract with Norwegian Norwind Offshore for the design and construction of two Commissioning Service Operations Vessels, as well as the agreement on new options for two additional ones. Norwind Offshore is a newly established company that will offer specialized vessels for support and development operations in the wind industry. It has a long history in the offshore marine sector during which it has forged a strong relationship with Vard through the construction of a wide range of innovative units. In fact, this order to Fincantieri follows the one placed in October 2021, again for the same client, for the construction of two Commissioning Service Operations Vessels which will now become four, as well as for the sale and conversion of a Platform Supply Vessel owned by Vard that the client will use as a Service Operation Vessel.

According to Fincantieri, the project is based on a highly versatile platform for sustainable support operations in offshore wind farms, which will stand out for its on-board logistics, safety, comfort and superior operability. The vessels will have a length of 85 meters, will be able to embark 87 people and will be equipped with a mobile gangway and elevator, compensated with respect to wave motion, as well as a system for transfer from the boat with adjustable height. The units will be designed to be equipped with a battery system. More in detail, the first vessel will be built in Braila, Romania, to be then fitted out and delivered in Brattvåg, Norway, during the first quarter of 2024. The second one will be built and delivered in Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu, Vietnam, and is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2025.

The contract value has not been announced but, based on the previous agreement with Norwind Offshore, Equita SIM estimated a value around 100 million dollars. As for the Group's offshore division, Equita SIM forecast order intake of 550 million euros this year and confirmed the hold rating and the target price at 0.69 euros on Fincantieri's stock, which today increased by 0.41% to 0.61 euros on the Italian Stock Exchange in Milan.
