BEIJING, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Yunnan Province will build a cross-border e-commerce ecosystem targeting markets in South Asia and Southeast Asia, as part of its efforts to promote foreign trade, according to a guideline recently made public by the government of Yunnan.

The guideline on accelerating development of new formats and models of foreign trade says that Yunnan will set up a direct selling platform for the display and trading of imported consumer goods, and build an online marketplace for products pitched at South Asia and Southeast Asia.

Efforts will be made to attract cross-border e-commerce enterprises and cross-border supply chain firms to set up regional headquarters and operation centers specialized for South and Southeast Asian markets in Yunnan.

The province will also explore the establishment of cross-border e-commerce alliances, and take an active part in the negotiation on the formulation of international rules for e-commerce.

Bordering Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam and nearing other South and Southeast Asian countries, Yunnan has a unique geographical advantage in developing cross-border e-commerce. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
