Khankendi, AZERBAIJAN, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Saturday hailed Azerbaijan-China ties as grounded on high level of mutual trust.
Speaking at a media forum held in the city of Khankendi, Aliyev recalled recent milestones in bilateral ties, including an agreement that elevated the ties to a strategic partnership in 2024 and another one to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025.
"This is a high level of mutual trust between two nations," Aliyev said.
Aliyev emphasized Azerbaijan's unwavering support for China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. "Azerbaijan has always openly supported the one-China policy," he said.
The president noted the active political dialogues with Chinese officials at all levels, and growing people-to-people exchanges bolstered by visa exemption programs, saying this will "enhance contacts between students, entrepreneurs and citizens."
Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan's strong support for the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, noting that Azerbaijan has developed the necessary transport and logistics infrastructure to facilitate connectivity.
On economic cooperation, Aliyev highlighted the rapidly increasing trade and transport links between the two countries, anticipating that trade volumes will multiply in the near future.
Energy collaboration is also growing, with Chinese companies involved in renewable energy projects from solar to wind. "The solar panels used in Azerbaijan are of Chinese origin," Aliyev said.
