MILAN, Feb. 8 (Class Editori) — There will be a bit of Italy as well in the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway (M-6) in Pakistan. The National Highway Authority (NHA) selected the consortium formed by the two Pakistani companies Techno and ACC together with Cooperativa Muratori Cementisti (CMC) of Ravenna as the most advantageous bidder, thus awarding a contract worth 307.7 billion Rs, corresponding to over 3.6 billion euros.
The 306-kilometer-long, six-lane highway with controlled access is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative, the regional connectivity framework — with beneficial effects on Iran, Afghanistan and Central Asia as well — based on enhancing geographic connections through improved road, rail and air transport systems.
The key highway connectivity project will be executed on a build-operate-transfer basis as a form of PPP, with the government expected to save over 82 billion Rs (960 million euros) in project costs and earn 73.5 billion Rs in revenues (860 million euros), according to early estimates.
