BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's shipbuilding industry saw robust growth in 2021, with the completed construction of ships, the new orders received and the holding orders taking up 47.2 percent, 53.8 percent and 47,6 percent of the global total, a respective increase of 4.1, 5.0 and 2.9 percentage points over 2020, reported stcn.com Monday.
In 2021, the construction of ships completed by China reached 39.703 million deadweight tonnes (dwt), an increase of 39.8 percent year on year, among which seagoing vessels registered 12.044 million compensated gross tonnage (cgt). The new shipbuilding orders received by China surged 131.8 percent year on year to 67.068 million dwt, among which the new orders for seagoing vessels recorded 24.015 million cgt.
By the end of December of 2021, the orders held by China's shipbuilding industry grew by 34.8 percent from the end of 2020 to 95.839 dwt, with the orders for seagoing vessels reaching 36.099 million cgt.
In 2021, China's shipbuilders saw further enhanced international competitiveness as six companies entered the global top 10 respectively in terms of the completed construction of ships, the new orders received and the holding orders.
The industrial concentration remained at a high level, and ships completed by the top 10 shipbuilders nationwide in terms of the completed construction of ships accounted for 69.3 percent of the national total. New orders received by the top 10 enterprises nationwide with the most new orders made up 69.3 percent of the national total. The orders held by the top 10 firms nationwide with the most holding orders took up 69.5 percent of the national total.
